This is the last night in Warsaw. Technically I will also have tomorrow evening to enjoy here. Practically, I believe I’ll enjoy a taxi trip to the airport while the sun will set over the Wisla river.
It’s therefore time for the words of wisdom… And while I wish I’d have a full list with those, I just have one: a smile. A smile about the mixture between the wish to overcome the historical frustrations and keep up with progress. It’s about having the guts to hope for the better. It’s about a process of reconstruction. It is about dreaming. It’s about reinventing the world while playing the piano. And these all create that estate of mind allowing the uncontrolled smile to paint itself on anyone’s face. It’s the most natural gesture… even on dull cloudy afternoons.
While it is poetic to link Chopin with the Polish destiny, after the days spent here I believe there’s more than that. It’s something related to the aspect of the new capital they’ve managed to rebuild from scratch and it is something in the romance of the old capital that holds together the soul of Poland.
