Publishing – Geopolitical and Competitive Analysis
I have learned analyzing from George Friedman and therefore it is usual for me to use the intelligence methodology to establish relevance and analytical relevance for any event – whether it is related to geopolitics or business. I have done my doctoral research on country risk management and investment decision making process for transnational companies under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Simona Gaftoniuc, who taught me to link the politics of international economics to the practicalities on the international financial markets, as she was keen on finding the significant details making the difference. Helping bestselling author Robert D. Kaplan taught me the value of words and travels when analyzing events from a historical perspective.
Besides working at Stratfor, I have published on two platforms:
Real Clear World – author page
Euractiv – Blogactiv – Global Perspectives
Some of my academic papers can be found on Social Science Research Network or ResearchGate:
- Building the Framework for Useful Intelligence – the Contemporary Needs and Risks (Oct 1, 2015)
- The Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership – A Challenge for the European Union? (2015)
- Corporate Investments in Conflict-Prone Regions: Managerial Approaches for Conflict Prevention (2010)
- South Eastern European Banking Industry – The Risks and Opportunities of a Speedy Transition (2009)
- Between Intelligence and Espionage in the Contemporary Business Environment (2008)
An article on companies’ decision making process can be read in the book titled Corporate Governance in Knowledge Based Society published in 2016 by the World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society Press.
I consider training and lecturing to be more than just a job – but almost a hobby, since I enjoy very much debating and being around people willing to invest in their personal development. Helping them acquire knowledge from the practical side of geopolitical and competitive analysis is in fact, helping me becoming better at what I do.
An associate lecturer with the Academy of Economic Studies – Department of International Business and Economics since 2008 and with the University of Bucharest – Department of European Studies since 2010, I have held courses and seminars to undergraduate and graduate students on World Economy, International Organizations, Conflict Management, Geopolitics, Research Methodology.
Since 2014 I am conducting the seminar training sessions for the course of Intelligence, Competitiveness and Security at the Research Master programs on Competitive Intelligence at the Mihai Viteazul National Intelligence Academy
I am also working with the European Institute in Romania on training program focusing on international business administration and I am the member of the Academic Board for the International Leadership Academy of the International Center for Leading Studies established in Greece.
Of the 10 years with Stratfor, I have spent about four in international marketing. Starting 2010, I worked on developing international media partnerships for the firm and I have become Vice President of International Marketing in November 2011. As Stratfor was hacked in December 2011, we have spent 2012 in rebuilding the company, re-establishing presence internationally. It was the period that I learned most about crisis management. In late 2014 I have focused my efforts into managing Stratfor’s “partnerships for knowledge” – the most valuable relationships that the company has had throughout the years, in terms of both brand awareness and analytical knowledge.
In the same time, I have coordinated the promotional efforts in Europe around the books written by George Friedman and have set up informational and contact meetings for both George Friedman and Robert D. Kaplan in my advisory role on specific projects.
